Dr. Peter Kim Nelson is the Director of the Neurointerventional Service at NYU Langone Medical Center. He graduated from Louisiana State University School of Medicine, New Orleans in 1986, and received post-graduate training in Radiology and Neuroradiology at the Mallinkrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University, St. Louis; and, in Interventional Neuroradiology under Alejandro Berenstein, MD and In Sup Choi, MD at NYU Langone Medical Center, New York. From 1993-2015, Dr. Nelson has been a staff physician in the Departments of Radiology and Neurosurgery at NYU, serving as Chief of the Neurointerventional Service and Director of the Neurology/Radiology/Neuroradiology Combined Residency Program at NYU School of Medicine from 1997-2011. Currently, he is Chief of the Bernard and Irene Schwartz Neurointerventional Service, Bellevue Hospital-NYUMC, New York City Health and Hospital Corporation, New York.

Beyond his academic and clinical activities, Kim has been involved in several entrepreneurial efforts engaged in medical device development. As a founding member of SMART THERAPEUTICS and principle associate at CHESTNUT MEDICAL, he was intimately involved in the conceptualization, refinement, and clinical testing of Neuroform and Pipeline; and, was further instrumental in developing strategies to regulatory approval for these endoluminal devices. He has spoken and published widely on the treatment of cerebrovascular disorders, and, significantly, is among those who have shaped the modern endovascular approach to aneurysm treatment. Dr. Nelson was the 2012 recipient of the Luessenhop Award.
